(5-25-02) Wonder how all 85,000 of those little flags get put up each year at the Los Angeles National Cemetery in Westwood? Few people know that Cub Scout Pack 769 out of Westchester along with over a thousand other Los Angeles area Scouts participate in the Flag Placement event each year in honor of America's veterans and the sacrifices they made for our country.

Every year, two days before Memorial Day, Scouts place small American flags atop of each of the individual graves, they then pause for a moment and follow it with a salute. 85,000 little salutes.

The event arranged each year by the Boy Scouts of America is a truly profound and moving experience for all of those participating. It paves way for the following Memorial Day event where veterans, armed forces personnel, their families and elected government representatives come together to honor the sacrifices made by those buried here.
